Lee Kuan Yew -

Singaporean statesman and politician, the first Prime Minister (1959-1990) in the history of the Republic of Singapore. Over the years of his rule, Lee transformed Singapore from a backward British colony into a developed country with a dynamically developing economy. In the course of deep reforms, he created a universal system of meritocratic, highly effective and anti-corrupt government. He championed meritocracy and multiculturalism, made English a common language for integrating immigrant society and facilitating trade with Western countries.
